Day 1!!!

Today was the day we landed in the Florida Keys. We woke up early to get to the airport and at about 10:30 the plane took off and we were on our way to the Keys. After we got off the plane we met out tour guide, Ms. Heather. Then we took a bus ride and had a picnic lunch at Gator Park right before our airboat ride and wildlife show. After the show we took pictures with Larry the alligator and some even kissed him. After that, we went on a nature walk at Shark Valley and saw alligators up close and personal. After the walk, we went back to the bus to go to dinner. We had a pizza dinner at Mama Mias. After dinner, we got on the bus to go to our night hike (moonlight walk) in the Everglades. It was really cool to see the Everglades at night and we even saw some alligators! We learned a lot about the different plants and animals we saw: sawgrass, cocoa plum, palm trees, ferns, apple snails, bonnet worms, galineau, anhinga, cormorant, iguana, egret, blue heron, pythons, and of course, alligators! We learned that apple snails are indicator species, gators are foundation species, and Florida has a lot of invasive species like pythons, iguanas, and lionfish.
